As we settle into the warm weather months, porches and decks become the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. So whether you’re looking to add a deck or spruce up an existing porch, there are plenty of trending ideas to get inspired by. There are endless possibilities, from screened-in porches to three-season rooms, front porches to large decks. So if you’re looking for ways to update your outdoor space, read on to see some of our favorite decks and porches of this year.

Screened-in Porches

Screened-in porches are an excellent addition to any home, providing a perfect indoor and outdoor living blend that quickly improves the aesthetics of your home.

We use the ScreenEze screening system for this client’s screened-in porch. ScreenEze works best in areas that require a strong and durable screen to prevent bugs, while also maintaining a clear and unobstructed view.

The main decking for this one was Trex Havana Gold, and we added a decorative picture frame border with Trex Spiced Rum that added a nice accent to the decking.

We used a white composite Trex Transcend railing with black aluminum balusters and a Trex Spiced Rum “drink rail” cap for the railing. The screened porch interior includes open wood rafters with T1-11 paneling, and we finished the walls with painted shiplap paneling. We also installed a ceiling fan and a TV. The exterior included the ScreenEze system, finished with PVC trim and a metal roof.

Three-Season Rooms

Inspiration for this three-season room came during the quarantine in 2020. Our client’s house was starting to feel small with everyone home all the time, and it was also a very chilly Spring that year. They wanted a space that allowed the feeling of being outdoors while staying warm enough to be comfortable.

We used Eze-Breeze windows made of vinyl panels that slide up or down, allowing them to be fully open for a screened porch experience or closed for a sunroom feel.

We heated the wood-look tile flooring and added a small electric fireplace for cool weather. The panels open when it’s warm out, and the ceiling fan can also be used. With so much flexibility, the client gets three seasons from the room. It’s become their favorite room in the house!

Three-season rooms provide the perfect balance of comfort and functionality. These versatile spaces are designed to be used for most of the year, except for the coldest winter months. With the right design, a three-season room can enhance a home’s overall appeal and create a welcoming atmosphere perfect for entertaining, relaxing, or simply enjoying the outdoors.

Front Porches

Front porches have been a staple of American homes for decades and for good reason. Not only do they add charm and curb appeal to a home, but they also provide the perfect spot for relaxing and socializing with neighbors and friends. Additionally, front porches can increase the value of a home, making them a wise investment for homeowners looking to sell in the future.

This client’s front porch was added to improve the look and curb appeal of the home. In addition, we added large squared support columns and included beadboard on the ceiling as a decorative enhancement.  We finished with a semi-gloss, bright white painted Boral trim, a great exterior trim product for painting because it’s long-lasting, durable and will not rot like traditional wood products.

Decks

Decks are a great way to expand your living space and enjoy the outdoors.

The decking used for this client project was Fiberon Concordia in Burnt Umber. We used the white vinyl Wolf railing system with black aluminum balusters and a “cocktail rail” cap. The cocktail rail (or drink rail) is convenient because it provides an area to set a drink on as people hang out on the deck.

You’ll notice we also incorporated different deck layouts on this one. We installed horizontal deck boards and included diagonal patterns to provide appealing design detail. We also added a large step down to a lower deck with lighting, providing an upper and lower deck.
